| The annual meeting of the Japan committee for IUCN
was held in Tokyo on Mon., April 7th. A total of 19 representatives
from 13 member organizations and 1 observer from an organization in
process of becoming a member were present. The accounting report of
the IUCN Japan committee in the last fiscal year and the activity
report were first made. During the last year, in addition to holding
of the Japan committee and meetings with the IUCN delegations, the
remake of the website of the Japan committee which used IUCN standardized
format was completed in March. IUCN site is now directly accessible
from this site. On behalf of IUCN Councilor Mr. Akao, Mr. Araike of
the Ministry of the Foreign Affairs made the report on IUCN Council
Meeting held in December 2002. He briefed on the agenda from the meeting
as well as the process of releasing IUCN statement on "Armed
Conflict and the Environment." The secretariat reported on the
visit to IUCN headquarters and other offices in January 2003, explaining
the role of the national committee, the necessity of expansion of
the Japan Committee, and the expectation of IUCN to the Japanese committee.
Other discussions include: clarifying the process for becoming a commission
member, publicizing the Japan committee, holding discussion meetings
on resolutions towards WCC, and holding an open discussion open for
public at an occasion of having a meeting with IUCN delegations. |
